Frequently Asked Questions for Writers

Ask a Question

What is the purpose of this book?

OlderWiserWomen: Our Journey (a tentative title) is a book written by and for women on the topic of successful aging. Refer also to Writers Guidelines and to our Book page.

Do I have to be a professional writer?

Heavens no! Any woman can write or tell her story. All stories will be edited for clarity and grammar.

Will all stories submitted be used?

Unfortunately we will not be able to use all stories for this book.

What topics are being looked for?

A woman may write about whatever moves her as long as it is an "age positive story". Think of it as discussing something wonderful about aging with your best friend. What would you say?

Here are a few topics to consider:

  • Professional life

  • Partners, significant others, spouses

  • Parents, children, grandchildren

  • Friends

  • Faith

  • Blessing and miracles

  • Our Bodies - what is it doing, what amazes you about it

  • Menopause and life after menopause

  • Sexuality

  • Life after loosing a partner

  • Overcoming challenges

  • Mid life transformations

  • Humor

You might also consider the following questions:

  • What is the best thing about your age?

  • What have you learned in life up until now?

  • What's been hard/easy about aging?

  • What's been humorous? Humbling?

  • How would you have lived your life differently if you knew then, what you know now?

  • What advice do you have for women that will follow you?

  • Are you grown up? Why or Why not?

  • What would you change? Why?

Are you only looking for stories?

No. One can also submit poetry. We are also considering using women's art in the book. Please inquire for further information.

Okay, what about the length of my story?

I'm known for a certain answer.."it depends". Some stories will be short, perhaps one page. Others might be several pages. It's important to have a good mix of stories.

What if I have a story, but can't write?

I would be happy to interview you in person or via the phone, record the interview and have it transcribed. Contact us for further information.

Where will the stories be used?

The main purpose of the stories is to use them in the book. This may include the book in various formats such as e-books, audio, large print format, and subsequent editions. In addition, we may use it one the website, and in promotional material including radio, television, magazines, e-books and other print and digital media.

How will my biographical information be used?

Any submission, be it a story, poetry, artwork, etc. will only be used with credit given to the creator. This may include your name, age, location, and contact information. This is often particularly important to women who have published their own material, or are in the process of doing so, as it provides them with more exposure.

The amount of information shared is based on what you have told us when you submit your story. At the very least, we would like to include an age and where you are located (city, state/province and country).

Will I be paid for my story?

At the time of this writing, the answer is no. However, steps are being taken to attempt to secure funds that will make at least a small amount possible.

All submissions that are published will include any biographical information, giving the author/creator lots of exposure. In addition, all women will receive a complimentary copy of the book upon publication.
