Ask a Question

There is a huge movement afoot. Actually, it's not an old movement, but an ongoing movement. Women want a coming of age ceremony. Women are looking for information on Croning.

I admit, when I first heard the term I wondered what connection it could possibly have to MY life. Jean Shinoda Bolen told me exactly what it had to do with me and my life in her wonderful book "Crones Don't Whine".

That book took me to the library and on internet searches looking for more information and resources which I now share here. Please let us know if there are other resources we can share with you.

Celebration of Age
Joyous & Inspirational Older Women
Sharing Stories & Wisdom ... History & Heritage

I found this lovely 1994 film at my local library!

The Croning Ceremony joyfully explores contemporary adaptations of an ancient custom called croning. Using music, story and symbol, inspired older women are honoring this stage of life with family and friends. Through Croning, they step forward to share their wisdom and life lessons with others at family reunions, mother/daughter events, community festivals or women's gatherings. The bonding of younger and older women is shown throughout the video, as they weave together history and heritage, celebrating their positive contributions to family and to society.

Crones Council

In existence since 1989, and gathering since 1993, this site has lots of information. The 2005 gathering is taking place in San Diego.
