Are you a target?

Women, especially older women, seem to frequently be in the news as targets of scammers. This evening there is an alert going out in the Jacksonville, FL area about a man who has been telling women they are victims of identify theft and need to give their money to him for safekeeping. While that one does not sound that convincing to me, there have been others that are a bit more real sounding. So what are some ways to keep yourself safe? Read the rest of this entry »

New Magazine for Baby Boomers

Dave Bunnell rattles off all the reasons why ELDR, his new Marin County-based national magazine aimed at people over 60, should be a hit. He talks about the 13,000 people who turn 60 every day, about the gargantuan spending power of that generation and about how older Baby Boomers don’t describe themselves the same way their parents did when they reached their sixth decade: Old.

“This (magazine) isn’t for people who sit around in their rocking chairs,” said Bunnell, the founder of several successful magazines, including PC World and PC Magazine. He plans to mark his 60th birthday Wednesday with a 60-mile bike ride around Marin. “We are trying to redefine what it means to be 60.”   Read the rest…

Retirement? Yes, No, Maybe?

According to many polls, more and more Americans are foregoing retirement…at least retirement in the way that perhaps our parents retired.  I plan to be among those that do not “retire”…I plan to explore other interests. Why? Because the more we are doing, the more we are challenging and stimulating our minds…the better we do. An idle brain and body does not last long.

CNN is running a series on retirement starting with Rethinking retirement: More boomers choosing to work

What are goals for retirement? Post your comments below.

Aging Deliberately

As soon as I saw the title of the article, I loved it… Aging Deliberately.

The author of Aging Deliberately: Safety Circles Good Way to Build Safety Net as We Age   is Liz Taylor.  She is talking about making plans in the event that you need them. In other words, you are making plans  so you can “control over what happens to us when we’re not” in control. It’s  a great idea. It goes beyond having a Living Will and Health Care Power of Attorneys.

Define Yourself - Canadian Style

Toronto, ON - April 24, 2007 - DefineYourself.ca, an interactive online community launched today and lasting for ten weeks, will boldly explore the world of aging with the help of six Canadian women whose differences lie not only in their approach to growing older, but also in their lifestyles, attitudes and ages, ranging from 40 to 56 years.

The six bi-weekly webisodes will embrace everything from family situations and self-image to cosmetic enhancement and personal finances.

Be A Kid Again

Every time I see this post, I think of OlderWiserWomen! However, I did not make this up. It’s an example of a post that can be made on Wordpress blogs. It’s on all the demo sites. Regardless of where it came from, life is short and these are some refreshing words of wisdom.
