Writing Your Wrongs

Many people keep diaries at some point in their lives. For some, it’s a way to monitor change and progress as they grow; for others, it serves to chronicle their stories for posterity.

Writing about one’s own life can serve as more than a record. Researchers have shown that journaling can be an effective tool to mitigate stress and actually improve physical function. When people write to explore their feelings, journaling is necessarily accompanied by vulnerability and, gradually, self-realization.
