OlderWiserWomen

Yep…it’s happened again! The OlderWiserWomen computers made a funny little clicking sound…and then stopped. Very frustrating.

Even more frustrating is that we have been backing up our data daily…just so we are protected. Except…our that while our software and external drive were happily churning away…they were doing so in vain. The last back up recorded was in January.

Consequently, we’ve lost several months worth of writing, emails, newsletters, etc. That includes your contact info and any recent emails. If you have contacted us, and have not yet heard from us…please contact us again.

Guess what? I am being interviewed on The EmpowerHour with Susan Schanerman on March 28, 2006 at 4pm Pacific. The CBS Early Show did a segment on women and midlife. I love the opening sentence of this…”Midlife doesn’t need to bring crisis. Sometimes, it just brings change, in the form of reinvention.”

I often hear the term “midllife” used right along with “crisis”. I for one have not felt like I’m in crisis. Yes, I’m changing and my world is changing. It’s exciting, sometimes a bit scarey (most of us don’t like the “unknown”), yet I would not have it any other way.

What changes are you experiencing? How do you see midlife? Feel free to post your comments below…I’d love to hear form you.

I don’t know about you…but I have been psyched for weeks over the coming spring. And she arrived this morning with a bright yellow sun and clear skies - not too common of an occurrence in this part of the country (this time of year). It makes the clouds, gray and rain (as forecasted for the rest of the week) tolerable.

Oldest baby boomers, turning 60, have seen - and made - history

July 20, 1969, on live television, Neil Armstrong became the first human being to walk on the moon. The baby boomers were there.

Nov. 4, 1963, on live television, in the basement of the Dallas police headquarters, Jack Ruby shot Lee Harvey Oswald. The baby boomers were there.

In the rice paddies and jungles of Vietnam and on the steps of St. Matthews Cathedral in Washington as John-John Kennedy saluted the casket of his father, the baby boomers were there.

This is the year that the oldest baby boomers - born between 1946 and 1964 - turn the big 6-0. That means they’re only two years away from eligibility for Social Security, a milestone that could mean an economic crisis for the nation.

To give some background, the “baby boom” occurred when U.S. soldiers returned from World War II and produced babies in numbers that caused a population spike.

Famous boomers include President George Bush and first lady Laura Bush, former President Bill Clinton, pop singer Cher, actor Sylvester Stallone and iconic boomer singer Jimmy Buffett. All of them remember the astronaut triumphs, events surrounding the JFK assassination, and Vietnam War protests and battlefield bloodshed.

Television broadcasts are intertwined with those memories.

March 8th is International Women’s Day and will be celebrated the world over with various local events as well as special television and radio programing.

The National Women’s History Project has a list of all the events, including the women who are being honored this year. That list includes women such as:

Take a moment to visit the NWHP and read about the accomplishments of these Wiser Women (many of them even OlderWiserWomen!).
