Are you a target?

Women, especially older women, seem to frequently be in the news as targets of scammers. This evening there is an alert going out in the Jacksonville, FL area about a man who has been telling women they are victims of identify theft and need to give their money to him for safekeeping. While that one does not sound that convincing to me, there have been others that are a bit more real sounding. So what are some ways to keep yourself safe? Read the rest of this entry »

Be A Kid Again

Every time I see this post, I think of OlderWiserWomen! However, I did not make this up. It’s an example of a post that can be made on Wordpress blogs. It’s on all the demo sites. Regardless of where it came from, life is short and these are some refreshing words of wisdom.

How To Stay Young

I don’t often pass on those emails we all get, but I thought this one had a few gems of wisdom we can all learn for…especially that last one.

~~~~~~~~~
1. Try everything twice. On Madams tombstone (of Whelan’s and Madam) she said she wanted this epitaph: Tried everything twice…loved it both times!
2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down. (keep this in mind if you are one of those grouches;)
3. Keep learning: Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain get idle. “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.” And the devil’s name is Alzheimer’s!
4. Enjoy the simple things.
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath. And if you have a friend who makes you laugh, spend lots and lots of time with HIM/HER.
6. The tears happen: Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. LIVE while you are alive.
7. Surround yourself with what you love: Whether it’s family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
9. Don’t take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county, to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
11. Forgive now those who made you cry. You might not get a second time.
Moving!
Just a heads up, OlderWiserWomen and all of her websites and blogs are being moved to a new server. Over the next few days you may note that we are down for a moment or two, otherwise, I’m told everything should go smoothly.
Looking good for her age
We frequently receive questions from members and when we can we answer them in “Celebrations, the official newsletter for OlderWiserWomen. In the latest edition, this question and answer were posted with an invitation for readers to add their own answers. If you have a comment, feel free to post it below.
I’m a VERY YOUTHFUL 41 year old woman. I work with women that are in their twenties and thirties that are unhappy with their bodies and their lives. I receive compliments everyday from the men on our jobs and when these women hear the compliments, they’ll make comments like “so and so looks good {for her age}…referencing to someone that we know that is in her forties and older. Most of the time, I can just ignore them, but there are other times that I want to say something to them but don’t. I would really love a comeback for when they start with these “old” comments. Any suggestions?
My favorite answer to statements I get is “This is what [insert your age] looks like”. I use it all the time.
If readers have any other suggestions, leave a reply below.
Giving Thanks
Here in the US, it’s just about Thanksgiving Day. I don’t know about you, but for years I thought it was all about watching the parades, Mom cooking huge meals (that included getting the good china and linen out) and eating. The smells always sent a message of comfort, not to mention the fact that Mom makes a mean dressing.
While those days are past, I’ve looked for other ways to celebrate. Hence…Giving Thanks. How often do we stop to tell the people in our lives how thankful we are that they are here? Some of you may do a great job with that…most however, do not. As a society, we seem to have lost some basics…like please and thank you.
So…let’s spend this week (or longer), Giving Thanks to those who have made a difference in our lives, our society, our world.
To all the women who have come before and have paved the way for us to age the “Baby Boomer Way”….thanks. To all of you reading, thanks for taking your time out to read these words and for helping to shape OlderWiserWomen. And to Mom…thanks for the memories.
Namaste.
Older & Wiser Women and their Blogs
OlderWiserWomen is lucky in that women contact us all the time about their writing, their stories, the work they are doing and the businesses they run. The more visible we all are, the better in my opinion. Here are a few blogs/websites that have been brought to my attention…
Enjoy!
