Today, I want to share a video with you. The story in it may be true for some of us now, or it may become a reality later on.
It’s the story of Elizabeth White, told by her in her self-published book “Fifty-five, Unemployed, and Faking Normal.”
Hats off to you Elizabeth White! It takes courage and guts to speak up and tell the truth.
Elizabeth White, educated and successful by any measure, lives at the edge of the “financial cliff.” As an older, unemployed woman, she finds it difficult to get hired. She’s gone through her savings and retirement and takes on freelance work to get by.
But she is not alone…
Many middle aged, qualified adults talk about how difficult it is to get hired because of their age. And it seems that it’s worse for women than for men.
Yes, even though unlawful, age discrimination is alive and well!
But even if you do get hired, you can expect to get paid less now than you got paid in the past.
A study by the New York Federal Reserve reports that there is a wage decrease of 9% for older adults between the ages of 45 – 55 and an additional 9% decrease if you’re between the ages of 55 – 65.
Not a pretty picture.
But see and hear for yourself…
